Scope of these facts
- Selected file contents stay in the browser for processing. Loading the website and its separate usage analytics can still use the network.
- Verification covers the declared checks for supported files, not independent certification or acceptance by another portal. A format-signature check is not digital-signature validation.
- JavaScript, the required browser APIs and sufficient device memory are needed. Limits are admission ceilings, not a guarantee for every file, browser or iPhone.
- JPEG recompression is lossy. Dimensions are retained; source EXIF/GPS metadata is not intentionally copied. This is not an independently certified metadata scrubber.
How it works
- Select a JPG or JPEG image.
- Choose Compress JPG. The browser tries a short sequence of quality settings and stops at the first smaller result.
- Compare the sizes and download the verified JPEG.
JPEG quality and file size
JPEG recompression is lossy. This tool tries encoder quality values 0.92, 0.88, 0.84 and 0.80 in that order, stopping as soon as the file becomes smaller. These are encoder settings, not percentages of visual quality. Results can vary between browsers. Already compact images may not shrink within these limits.
Same dimensions, same format
The width and height stay unchanged. This page produces JPEG only; it does not convert to PNG or WebP. Every output is inspected again and decoded to check its format and dimensions before download.
Metadata and supported images
The browser creates a new image and does not preserve original EXIF, location or other metadata. Color profiles can be normalized by the browser. Baseline and progressive 8-bit grayscale or RGB JPEGs are supported. Rotated or mirrored EXIF orientation, CMYK and multi-image JPEG variants are currently declined to avoid silently changing their meaning.
Local processing and limits
Use one supported JPEG within the current file-size, pixel-count and dimension limits shown in the technical facts above. Processing runs locally and is bounded by the Worker deadline shown there. Your image and filename are never sent to our servers. Your original file stays unchanged. A current browser with local image encoding is required.
Frequently asked questions
Are JPG and JPEG different formats?
No. Both extensions normally identify the JPEG format. This tool validates the actual file content as well as its declared type.
Will compressing my JPG reduce its dimensions?
No. The tool changes JPEG encoding and removes original metadata, while keeping the pixel width and height.
Why did my image not become smaller?
An already optimized JPEG may need more quality loss to shrink further. This tool stops at its quality floor and reports that no smaller result was found.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, in a supported modern browser. Larger images need more memory. Images with an EXIF rotation are currently declined; export an upright copy first.
